Without immunity to covid-19, 75 percent of Mexicans

MEXICO CITY

75 percent of Mexicans do not have immunity to the coronavirus, according to the National Health Survey COVID-19 (ENSANUT COVID-19).

When detailing the preliminary results of this research -which was carried out in 9,400 households from August to November of this year-, Juan Ángel Rivera Dommarco, general director of the National Institute of Public Health (INSP), pointed out that currently only 25 percent One hundred of the population is immune, that is, around 31 million people, who also have the possibility of suffering a reinfection.

75 percent of Mexicans do not have immunity from covid, it is a very high percentage, there are almost 100 million people, so we must not neglect ourselves, we must not lower our guard. Not because the vaccine comes, I feel that I can leave now and I can leave all precautionary measures to avoid contagion. The vast majority of us are totally vulnerable to infection.

But in addition, 25 percent, because many people do not know if they had it or not, there are possibilities of reinfection, that is, science still cannot answer us how long the defenses against covid last and although there are not many documented cases, already there are re-infections in Mexico ”, he indicated.

26 percent of the people who registered antibodies are men and 23 percent women. 27.3 percent were between 20 and 39 years old.

With the analysis of 7,098 blood samples, which represent 74.4 percent of the total collected, Rivera Dommarco reported that of the total number of people who were positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, 70 percent did not present symptoms and 10 percent hundred, presented some symptoms.

Only 20 percent did have symptoms consistent with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

What does this mean, that many people, perhaps many of us who are here, are asymptomatic and therefore we can be transmitting the disease without realizing it, that is why it is important to take all precautions, “he said.
