The women’s EuroBasket starts in three weeks, and the group of selected has already been reduced to 15 girls at the end of the Playoffs of the French championship. From now on, the mission is to prepare as well as possible for the competition where the French team is aiming for a first place which has eluded them since 2009. First stage, Serbia, reigning European champions, for a double confrontation in Toulouse. A look back at the “first leg” won by Les Bleues before the revenge which will take place this evening at the Palais des Sports in the Pink City.

It’s a Slightly revamped French team which will travel to Slovenia for the Euro. Indeed, Gabby Williams will skip because of medical problems and administrative disputes have pushed Jean-Aimé Toupane not to select Marine Johannès for the rest of the adventure. This year will therefore be an opportunity to see new talents with more responsibilities than before, like the shock duo Marine Fauthoux – Iliana Rupert, while remaining surrounded by the furniture of this feminine EDF, Sarah Michel and Valériane Vukosavljevic in the lead.

In any case, Les Bleues arrived in Toulouse determined to beat their nemesis, Serbia, who beat them in the EuroBasket 2021 final.

The first half is controlled by the French team with a gap taken very early in the game, everyone contributes to the scoring and it quickly makes nearly fifteen points difference for the Blues. Serbia wants to come back but France holds them a good 15-0 in the face to end the first half in style. The only problem with this almost perfect start to the encounter, Valériane Vukosavljevic has to go out injured during the second quarter because of a sudden calf injury. A first concern for the innkeeper of the Blue …

In the second half, the two teams increased their level of defense and pushed each other to their limits. France is jostled but Migna Touré (21 points) responds on killer drives, Iliana Rupert (18 points) does the same from the parking lot. The defense will allow the Blues to keep a nice gap to prevent the Serbs from coming back. Final score: 73-61 for the French.

Note that only those present in the Palais des Sports had the chance to see images of this meeting. A few videos are available on the social networks of the French teams, nothing more, except if a charitable soul has sacrificed all the storage of his phone to offer a replay of the match to those who were unable to go to Toulouse in all case.

But good news… the second game against Serbia takes place tonight and will be broadcast on your small screen! See you from 6 p.m. on BeIN Sports and/or France 4 to experience this meeting. So it doesn’t matter if you are more Jacques Monclar or Richard Dacoury, you will have the choice to live this second meeting where the French nugget Pauline Astier and the combative Marième Badiane will make their return in the blue jersey after being put on rest yesterday.
