World Markets: Summary of stock market, oil, gold

Indices and stock market conditions, oil, gold and foreign money markets as of 17 Nov 2022.

— The Dow Jones New York Stock Exchange closed lower on Thursday (Nov. 17) after Federal Reserve officials (Fed) urged the Fed to move forward with interest rate hikes. The US labor market will further push the Fed to raise interest rates.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 33,546.32 points, down 7.51 points or -0.02%, the S&P 500 closed at 3,946.56 points, down 12.23 points or -0.31%, and the Nasdaq closed at 11,144.96 points, down 38.70 points or -0.35%.

— European stocks closed lower on Thursday (Nov. 17), pressured by plunging mining and healthcare shares. That overshadowed a rally in Siemens, which helped German stocks close higher.

The STOXX 600 Index closed at 428.38 points, down 1.79 or -0.42%.
