WWE Friday Night SmackDown #1201
Ort: State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia
Date: 29 July 2022
Spectators: approx. 9,200

Adam Cole welcomes us to tonight’s SmackDown. The two Brits Drew McIntyre and Sheamus open today’s matches. Sheamus attacks the Scot before the ring bell rings.

1. Match
Old Fashioned Donnybrook Street Fight Shillelagh Singles Match
Drew McIntyre beats Sheamus via a pinfall after a claymore kick.
Match time: 25:32
– A number of items were used throughout the match, including a “Shillelagh”, chairs and barrels.
– After 14 minutes, Ridge Holland came to the ring and attacked McIntyre. After an unsuccessful pin attempt, Holland went on to attack but was thrown through a table by McIntyre.
– After almost 21 minutes, “That Son of a Butch” (quote Pat McAfee) jumped from some barrels onto McIntyre and thus also intervened in the match. He was knocked out with a giant “Shillelagh” and Claymore Kick.
– McIntyre was able to kick out of a brogue kick and the white noise.

Drew McIntyre is No. 1 Contender in “Clash at the Castle”. He is interviewed by Kayla Braxton, who congratulates him. The Scot first thanks the raucous crowd before revealing he’s the one who will take the title from the Part Time Champion. Suddenly he is attacked from behind by Theory, who hits McIntyre with the Money in the Bank case. He promises McIntyre that he will be his opponent.

Corbin shows up behind the commentary table with a ticket and a “Loser” poster with McAfee’s face on it. He takes a seat behind the commentators before the commercial begins.

Even after the commercial, Corbin continues to taunt the commenters before we get a look back at Reigns’ pin on Riddle at RAW. Rollins’ post-match attack is also shown, in which he injured Riddle so badly that he was unable to compete at SummerSlam. Meanwhile, Michael Cole demands security for Corbin, while McAfee can hardly contain himself.

The card for tomorrow’s SummerSlam is being reviewed. Adam Pearce then tries to resolve the situation, but Corbin jumps over the barricade and kicks McAfee in the groin. Corbin is escorted backstage.

Theory is interviewed backstage. He says he’s fed up with being treated like a punching bag. He is a future two-time United States Champion and the most recent Money in the Bank winner. And tomorrow he will be the new Undisputed WWE Champion. He is intercepted by Paul Heyman who obviously has something to say to him.

McAfee is still recovering at the commentary table while Shotzi waits for her opponent. The second match of the evening can start.

2. Match
Singles Match
Shotzi defeats Aliyah via pinfall after never wake up.
Match time: 03:19
– Aliyah was scheduled to face Lacey Evans, but according to Michael Cole, she was not medically cleared.
– Pat McAfee once again gave a brilliant performance on the microphone.

The unshown scene involving Sonya Deville and Ronda Rousey is shown to us. Deville berated the crowd before Rousey could throw her out of the ring.

Liv Morgan and Ronda Rousey snap photos for tomorrow’s match. Natalya tells Morgan to enjoy her last day with the title. Deville, Natalya, and Morgan discuss some more while Rousey heads out to do a promo in the ring. Shotzi doesn’t want to give up the mic, so Rousey throws her out of the ring. She is generally just disgusted with every other wrestler and also insults someone in the audience. She tells Morgan to come to the ring. This probably needs the to make a decision, but then it comes out. The two appear to be tag teaming now, however, as Adam Pearce scheduled the following match in the commercial…

3. Match
Tag Team Match
Ronda Rousey & Liv Morgan defeat Sonya Deville & Natalya via submission from Deville in Ronda Rousey’s ankle lock.
Match time: 11:33
– Morgan and her challenger did not show good teamwork and kept revealing (logical) tensions. Morgan refused the tag for minutes and attempted to win the match on his own.

A recap of the Usos’ controversial victory over the Street Profits at Money in the Bank is shown. The Street Profits come to the ring. After the courtship, the Usos keep them company. And then it’s time for “Double J,” Jeff Jarrett. And he has something to say. He takes his job as a guest referee very seriously. The Usos have a few rules questions, with the two teams finally wondering what could result in a disqualification. Angelo Dawkins slightly misses his “We want the Smoke” cue. Jarrett doesn’t even try to calm things down, saying he only has one job: counting to three. After a few more words, there is then the brawl between the two teams. The Usos accidentally hit Jarrett with a superkick. The Street Profits knock the Usos out of the ring and end up triumphant while Double J looks at the Usos with skepticism. Will this affect the neutrality of the referee tomorrow?

Match Flo: A look back at the Viking Raiders clashes and the New Day.

Before the match, however, there are “finally” the maximum male models. In addition to Maxxine, there was also an appearance by Max Dupri, who is probably still looking for models.

4. Match
Tag Team Match
The New Vicious Viking Raiders (Erik & Ivar) defeat The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) via Ivar’s pin on Kingston after a double powerbomb.
Match time: 09:12

After the match, the Raiders grab their shield and metal chair and head back into the ring. Woods defends his helpless partner and takes a hit from Erik’s shield. Kingston is thrown out of the ring, while Ivar works on Wood’s foot with the chair. Stuck in a chair, both Raiders hit the foot with their shields.

Paul Heyman is in the ring after the commercial. He hypes tomorrow’s title match and promises that tomorrow’s last man standing will be Roman Reigns, taking Lesnar down once and for all. But then – the Beast is present! Lesnar’s music sounds, grinning, he walks to the ring. Heyman is absolutely stunned. Lesnar’s pyrotechnics set off in time this time as Lesnar stalks to the ring. McAfee mutates into Lesnar’s biggest fanboy, who is handed the microphone by Heyman. But Lesnar doesn’t grab it and wants to attack Heyman. But Theory attacked from behind – with little success. Lesnar shows him the entrance to “Suplex City, Bitch” (McAfee quote). Theory retreats, full into a claymore kick from McIntyre. Lesnar and the Scot grin at each other, Theory doesn’t move and Heyman’s nerves are just shattered. This ends SmackDown – see you tomorrow at SummerSlam!
