Xinhua: The localization of the electric car industry in Egypt is a leap for sustainable development

The Chinese news agency “Xinhua” shed light on the Egyptian strategy to localize the electric car industry, which is a huge leap to achieve sustainable development, green economy and reduce harmful environmental emissions.

In a news analysis of the Chinese news agency Xinhua, Egyptian experts emphasized that the localization of the electric car industry in Egypt is of great economic, technological, developmental and environmental importance.

Engineer Ayman Mohamed, an expert in electric cars, said that Egypt’s quest during the current period to localize the electric car industry is a huge leap in the Egyptian industry, as Egypt is one of the first countries interested in this advanced industry, noting that this would open other markets to the Egyptian industry as New technology in the world and the region.

He explained that Egypt now has a large surplus in the production of electricity, and therefore this surplus can be directed to charging electric cars .. pointing out that there is a strong tendency to produce passenger cars and buses, and to provide auto parts and specialized maintenance centers.

He stressed that the expansion in the production of electric cars will have important economic effects, given the huge sums Egypt spends on importing fossil fuels and supporting citizens, pointing out that this trend will lead to a significant reduction in expenses, which will positively affect the Egyptian economy.

Mohamed praised the efforts of the Egyptian government to establish a strong infrastructure and develop means of transportation in order to improve the level of carbon emissions and achieve sustainable development within the framework of the transition to a green economy.

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi had directed the strengthening of cooperation with companies from the private sector to localize the electric car industry in Egypt, starting with the assembly stages, leading to integrated manufacturing, in line with the growing global trend in this regard, and within the framework of implementing the national strategy for green transformation, taking into account its returns. The important positive for the state and citizens economically, environmentally and healthily.

The Ministry of Public Enterprise Sector, through its subsidiary Al-Nasr and Engineering Automotive companies, and in cooperation with international companies, is implementing a number of projects to produce electric vehicles, whether passenger cars or minibuses (12-15 passengers).

For his part, the economist, Dr. Walid Gaballah, said that electric cars have already begun to appear in Egypt, but the Egyptian government is seeking to manufacture electric cars, whether for public and collective transport or small cars, to achieve its economic, development and environmental goals.

He explained that the expansion of the use of electric cars is one of the important axes to reduce harmful carbon emissions, and one of the tools for improving citizens’ health as the most prominent and pivotal element in the development process, as well as Egypt’s fulfillment of the criteria for green transformation, which will have a major role in attracting more foreign investments from abroad. According to data issued by the Egyptian Association for Compulsory Vehicle Insurance, about the most licensed electric cars “new and used” by brand from July 2021 until the end of last January 2022, the Volkswagen brand occupied the first place for electric cars licensed during the mentioned period with 82 cars, and came In second place are Tesla electric cars, with 30 cars during the same period.
