Bhubaneswar / Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited Odisha and Bengal to assess the damage caused by Hurricane Yas.
When the Odisha Chief Minister requested the Prime Minister for long-term plans to mitigate the recurring cyclone and damage, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee refused to attend the review meeting. The review meeting in Odisha lasted for an hour. After conducting aerial surveillance in Balasore and Bhadrak, the worst-hit areas, Modi left for Bengal.
The Prime Minister chaired the review meeting at Kalaikunda in West Midnapore. Mamata Banerjee had earlier told the media that it would be difficult to travel 45 minutes to reach there. There are complaints that the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary did not come to receive the Prime Minister.
However, Mamata Banerjee, who visited the Prime Minister after the meeting, submitted a preliminary report on the damage. The BJP has accused Mamata Banerjee of playing politics despite the natural calamity. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has criticized Mamata Banerjee for boycotting the review meeting.
