Zamalek loses to Wydad and worsens its position in the champions

Zamalek club lost the match that it collected with Moroccan Wydad in Casablanca, by three goals to one, this evening, Saturday, in the third round of the fourth group of the African Champions League.

Zamalek’s defeat worsened its position in the group standings and the competition to qualify for the next round, in light of the failure to achieve any victory after the passage of half of the matches of the current round.

Zamalek started the meeting quickly, which led to an early goal after 3 minutes, after Ahmed Sayed “Zizou” fired a missile shot from outside the penalty area against the outside of the foot, which dwelt in the far right corner of Wydad’s goal.

In the 27th minute, Wydad managed to reach the equalizing goal after a defensive error from Zamalek, as Zuhair Al-Mutarji hit the ball from outside the area and into the white team’s net.

Wydad managed to turn the table after a fatal mistake by Abu Jabal, the Zamalek goalkeeper, after he failed to remove a corner kick in the 37th minute, to reach the ball to Amin Farhan inside the area and turn it with a scissor into the net.

Four minutes after the start of the second half, Zuhair Al-Mutarji fired a missile from outside the penalty area, but it passed next to Abu Jabal’s left post.

The match was stopped for a few minutes, as Wydad fans threw bottles at the benches of the Zamalek bench, while Medhat Abdel Hadi, the white coach, pushed one of the ball bearers out of the field.

The events caused a clash between the players, before the match referee intervened to calm the atmosphere, with the red card for Abdel Hadi.

Wydad doubled their lead by scoring the third goal in the 87th minute after a kick from the right side, turning a cross-foot ball into Yahya Gibran, who shot it easily past Abu Jabal.

With this result, Wydad’s balance rose to the sixth point in second place in the group standings behind Petro Atletico of Angola with seven points, then Zamalek with two points, and finally Sagrada of Angola with one point.
