The ZTE Axon 30 Pro is confirmed just five months after the launch of its predecessor. The phone will be equipped with an under-display selfie camera, making it ZTE’s second launch with the technology. It will also feature a Snapdragon 888 processor, a significant upgrade from the Axon 20 5G.
Last year, ZTE made history with the launch of the first commercial smartphone with an underscreen selfie camera – the Axon 20 5G. Although the image quality of this camera is lacking, it proves that the technology is viable.

Now, barely five months later, ZTE is already preparing to track this device (via GSM Arena). On the Chinese microblogging site Weibo, director of ZTE’s consumer experience department, Lu Qianhao shared information confirming that the ZTE Axon 30 Pro is on the way.
As with last year’s model, the phone will feature a selfie camera below the screen. However, it will also benefit from new upgrades that will place it well in flagship territory. That will make it a big step up from the affordable flagship specs of the Axon 20 5G.
ZTE Axon 30 Pro: Flagship Specifications
Last year’s Axon model featured a Snapdragon 765G chipset. This gave it 5G connectivity and perfectly adequate speeds, but there were certainly better performing chips on the market.
Fortunately, ZTE has confirmed that the Axon 30 Pro will ship with the latest and greatest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. This will allow it to stand tall with other 2021 flagships, such as the recently released Samsung Galaxy S21 series. .

Qianhao’s Weibo post also strongly suggests that there will be a huge 200MP camera sensor on the back of the new phone. While he doesn’t fully confirm that this is the case, he strongly insists that the SD888 is capable of supporting a lens of this caliber. Elsewhere, other leaks suggest the phone may come with a still-unreleased 200MP sensor made by Samsung. If this is true, it is possible that the launch of the ZTE Axon 30 Pro is an issue.
Of course, the underscreen selfie camera will be the real selling point of this phone. If ZTE can improve the output quality of this sensor, it could have a big winner in its hands.
