CJ ENM & KBS Make Headlines: AI Alliance Launches Amidst Labor Agreement

Seoul, South Korea – February 10, 2026 – Two significant developments are shaking up the Korean entertainment landscape today. CJ ENM has officially launched the ‘AI Content Alliance,’ a groundbreaking initiative aimed at fostering a thriving artificial intelligence content industry, while simultaneously, KBS has reached a new collective agreement with the Korea Broadcasting Actors’ Union. This dual announcement signals a period of rapid change and collaboration within the nation’s media sector, poised to impact content creation and labor practices for years to come.

CJ ENM Pioneers AI Content Ecosystem

In a move hailed as Korea’s first private sector-led effort of its kind, CJ ENM is partnering with AI-focused small and medium-sized production companies and educational institutions to build a comprehensive AI content industry ecosystem. The alliance, formally unveiled on February 9th at the CJ ENM Center in Sangam-dong, will concentrate on five key areas: expanding the creation of unique AI content, investing in specialized technology research and development, cultivating a skilled workforce, broadening distribution networks both domestically and internationally, and establishing supportive policy frameworks.

The launch ceremony saw participation from key figures including Kim Jae-hyeon, head of the Culture Media Industry Office of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, alongside representatives from 12 AI production companies and five educational institutions. CJ ENM intends to broaden participation to include both domestic and international media and technology firms in the near future.

Specifically, the alliance plans to design an AI industry-optimized talent training program through an industry-academic consultative body in the first half of 2026, with implementation at educational institutions planned for the second half. Joint production projects are slated to start later this year, facilitated by regular workshops and meetings to connect participating companies.

KBS and Actors’ Union Reach Agreement

On the labor front, KBS announced the conclusion of a collective agreement with the Korea Broadcasting Actors’ Workers’ Union (Han Yeon-ro) on February 10th. The agreement, covering 2025-2026, focuses on improving appearance fees based on seniority, enhancing on-site working conditions for actors, fostering a sustainable broadcast production environment, and improving welfare benefits for union members. Han Yeon-ro represents over 6,000 performers, including actors, voice actors, and martial arts performers.

These developments highlight a dynamic period for the Korean entertainment industry, balancing technological innovation with the needs of its creative workforce. The AI Content Alliance promises to reshape content creation, while the KBS agreement underscores the importance of fair labor practices in a rapidly evolving media landscape.

As AI continues to permeate the entertainment sector, and as labor negotiations shape the future of broadcasting, archyde.com will continue to provide in-depth coverage of these critical developments.
