Ten people were injured, four of them seriously, following a car plowed into a crowd at an international festival in northern France on Saturday, local officials said.

Pas-de-Calais authorities said initial reports were that the elderly driver lost control of the car and hit pedestrians during a kite-flying festival in the coastal town of Berc-sur-Mer.

The emergency services reported that four women were seriously injured, including two pensioners, aged 75 and 82.

The annual festival takes place over several days, and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world.
