13-Year-Old Joyride: Child Drives Parents’ Car and Crashes into Parked Trucks in Grammont

2023-08-10 13:44:00

A 13-year-old child took the wheel of his parents’ car overnight from Wednesday to Thursday in Grammont (East Flanders) and crashed into two parked trucks. The driver and his passenger, also 13 years old, had to be extricated from the vehicle by the emergency services. They are slightly injured.

The incident took place around 1:30 a.m. The vehicle left the road, crashed into a parked truck before ending up in another heavy goods vehicle parked further away. The emergency services had to extricate the occupants of the car via the roof of the vehicle. The two teenagers, however, were only slightly injured. The material damage is considerable.

The authorities confirmed that these facts might be assimilated to the phenomenon of “joyride”, which consists of driving a stolen vehicle for entertainment.
