With 1,672 new infections in Austria as of 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, the number of people who were infected with the corona virus within 24 hours is still high. That is almost twice as many new confirmed cases as in the same period on the Sunday before. Yesterday, Saturday, a record 1,747 new infections were reported.
On Sunday, 742 people were in hospital treatment due to Covid-19 disease, 135 of them in intensive care units, reported the Interior Ministry. The total number of people in whom the SARS-CoV-2 virus was detected increased to 64,806, 893 have died. With 790 new recoveries, a total of 49,561 have now recovered. There were 14,352 acute cases nationwide on Sunday.
Of these, 431 new infections were recorded in Vienna. The other new infections are spread across Lower Austria (356), Upper Austria (274), Tyrol (167), Salzburg (182), Styria (86), Vorarlberg (79), Carinthia (53) and Burgenland (44).

In view of the daily new Corona record numbers, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) on Sunday urged the Austrians to “stick together in order to keep the number of infections low”. It “is up to all of us” to prevent the second lockdown – by reducing social contacts and avoiding celebrations, large private gatherings and parties, he said in a long video broadcast via Facebook entitled “The situation in Austria is serious” .
