2 Firefighters Injured After Fighting Fire in Hartford – NBC Boston

Two firefighters were taken to the hospital following being injured fighting a fire at a grocery store in Hartford early Monday morning.

Authorities said the fire broke out shortly before 3 a.m. in a building on Ashley Street. There is a grocery store on the first floor and vacant apartments on the second floor.

Crews on scene had to go on the defensive and fight the fire from outside the building. At one point, authorities said part of the building collapsed and a storage area was damaged.

The building’s metal roof makes it a difficult fire to put out, fire officials said. It has a lot of hot spots and crews are working to extinguish them.

According to authorities, two firefighters were taken to St. Francis Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
