Who will succeed Sadio Mané, elected African Player of the Year in 2022? CAF unveiled, Thursday morning, the list of three finalists: Moroccan defender Achraf Hakimi (PSG), Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) and Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen (Naples) remain in the running for the trophy which will be awarded on December 11 in Marrakech (Morocco).

If the first two African players in the 2023 Ballon d’Or ranking (Osimhen, 8th and Salah, 11th) appear in this short-list, Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou (Al-Hilal), 13th in the Ballon d’Or, is absent, despite his victory in the Europa League with Sevilla and his excellent World Cup with the Atlas Lions (semi-finalists) in Qatar.
