Cameron Smith possesses the solo lead at 8 under following two rounds at the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village. The Australian will look to add his third title of the year, as he successfully fended off Jon Rahm at the Tournament of Champions and the strongest field in golf at the Players Championship in March.
This time, he will hope to maintain his slim margin over a mixed crop of PGA Tour newcomers and veterans. Both Cameron Young and Davis Riley are two strokes adrift and well-positioned to capture their first career victory on golf’s biggest stage, as both rookies have been making a habit of occupying leaderboards over the weekend at PGA Tour events.
Only one stroke behind them, and three off Smith’s lead, is Rory McIlroy, who was last seen finishing inside the top 10 at the 2022 PGA Championship. With impressive play over the last month, the four-time major championship winner has been held without a trophy since last October despite his high level of play.
