The General Secretariat of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment announced the number of calls that the psychological counseling hotline has received so far.
The secretariat said in a statement today, that following two years of developing the service, 25,448 calls were received since the beginning of April 2020, until the end of last March, including 383 emergency calls for suicidal thoughts or attempts that require immediate direct intervention by therapists, who carried out their tasks immediately. And to the fullest to deal with those cases.
The Secretariat referred to the indirect interventions to prevent suicide by raising awareness of the services of the General Secretariat of Mental Health and how to refer to it, in addition to psychological counseling for all members of society in all its categories.
The Municipality had launched a hotline for psychological counseling in mid-December 2015, for limited hours of the day, and then, in conjunction with the spread of the Corona virus, it was developed in April 2020 to become 24 hours.
The hotline receives calls daily throughout the week, through the team of service providers who receive calls from the public, and then they are directed to the psychological counseling service through a team of therapists who have been trained in the latest methods of psychological treatment, in addition to continuous supervision of the therapists and workers in the hotline service.
