Oil jumps 4% to its highest level in 5 weeks after the OPEC + decision

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief October 8, 2022
written by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

Oil prices jumped by regarding four percent, on Friday, to a five-week high, supported by the OPEC + decision to make the largest supply cut since 2020, despite concerns regarding recession and high interest rates.

Oil rose for the fifth day in a row despite the dollar’s rise following data showed that the US economy is creating jobs at a strong pace, while reinforcing expectations that the Federal Reserve will continue to tighten monetary policy sharply.

A stronger dollar makes oil more expensive for holders of other currencies, and usually affects oil and other risky assets.

Brent crude futures rose $3.50, or 3.7 percent, to $97.92 a barrel. US West Texas Intermediate crude also rose $4.19, or 4.7 percent, to $92.64 a barrel.

That was the highest closing level for Brent since August 30 and for US crude since August 29. The two contracts recorded gains for the second week in a row, and the largest percentage gain since March this week. Brent rose during the week by regarding 11 percent and US crude by 17 percent.

“One of the major implications of the recent OPEC cuts is the likely return to the $100 oil price,” said Stephen Brennock of BVM oil brokerage.

The cut decided by the OPEC + bloc, which includes the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), comes before the European Union’s ban on Russian oil, which will reduce supplies in a market already suffering from a tight supply.

On Thursday, US President Joe Biden expressed his disappointment with the plans of OPEC +. He and other officials said the United States was studying all possible alternatives to prevent price hikes.

Eating more “ultra-processed” foods increases the risk of childhood obesity for mothers

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief October 8, 2022
written by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

A new US study has revealed a worrying link between maternal consumption of “extremely processed” foods and an increased risk of childhood obesity. In the study above bmj.com was published, the diets of more than 14,000 mothers and almost 20,000 children were examined. It found that mothers who ate the most ultra-processed foods were almost a quarter times more likely that their child between the ages of 7 and 17 would be obese than mothers who ate the least of these foods.

Widespread in the modern western diet

The research suggests that there is a link between a mother’s consumption of ultra-processed foods and the risk of her child becoming overweight or obese. These foods include, but are not limited to, packaged baked goods and snack foods, carbonated beverages, and sugary cereals. These are “widespread in the modern Western diet and are associated with weight gain in adults,” the researchers said in one press release.

The group with the highest maternal consumption of ultra-processed foods (12.1 servings/day) had a 26% greater risk of their child developing overweight or obesity than the group with the lowest consumption (3.4 servings/day). Other potentially influential factors such as physical activity, smoking and standard of living were also considered but were not as strongly associated with childhood obesity. “Maternal consumption of ultra-processed foods during parenting has been associated with an increased risk of overweight or obesity in offspring, independent of maternal and offspring lifestyle risk factors,” the researchers said.

Further investigations necessary

The study used data from several large, ongoing studies with detailed assessments of dietary habits over a relatively long period of time. The study found that there is a consistent association between processed food consumption and an increased risk of obesity. However, the study had some limitations. So you can’t make any direct statements regarding the reason and the consequence of certain actions.

Nevertheless, the study provides valuable information regarding the possible health risks associated with the consumption of fast food and other processed foods. Further studies are now required to confirm the results and to understand the underlying biological mechanisms and environmental factors. “These data underscore the importance of refining dietary recommendations and developing programs to improve the nutrition of women of reproductive age to promote offspring health.”

Nazim Issa: Abandoning “Abu Ali” saddens me

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief October 8, 2022
written by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

Beirut: Hana Toby

Nazem Issa, a veteran Lebanese actor, began his artistic career half a century ago and was able to occupy the rank of continuous and extended success for years, in some of which he was absent from his country Lebanon, where he traveled to Canada, but he did not skimp on his giving to the theater, cinema and television, he began his artistic career with giants The Lebanese theater, Nabih Abu al-Hassan and Antoine Kerbage, and participated in several films, the first of which is “In Blowing the Wind”, and the last of which will not be his current movie, “Al-Hiba”, he attended strongly in the series that cannot be counted on its abundance, including “House of the Sweetest Houses of Beirut” and “Between Beirut and Dubai,” “The Return,” “Deprived,” “Zaman Al-Omar,” “Jana Al-Omar,” “The Peasants’ Revolution,” and others… In recent years, he has formed one of the main characters in the series “Al-Hiba,” as he embodied the character “Abu Ali” in the five seasons of the series, and sealed it in the film with the same title “Al-Hiba”, which has become synonymous with it, according to what he said, as the people he meets on the street call him “Abu Ali”.

* How does the movie “Al-Hiba” differ from the series with its five parts?

The movie “Al-Hiba” was considered a culmination of the series and has the same spirituality, but its dimensions are different, its events are accelerated, and its techniques are of high quality. It is a new quality that is different from the familiar that we know in Arab cinema in general. .

* How did you find the demand for it in the Emirates, Jordan and Lebanon, where it was opened in the halls?

The turnout is very high, the audience is excited to watch it, and the echoes are positive, according to what I receive, and we will continue the journey of its opening in all Arab halls, and I hope that it will leave the mark it deserves wherever it goes.

* You play the character “Abu Ali” in the movie… Will your character remain on the same line that we knew you in the series?

– The character of “Abu Ali” is very likable, and he is a loyal man in a time of disbelief, who carries the secrets of the family of the Sheikh of the Mountain (Tim Hassan) and he will continue to wear this dress to be convincing, while taking more space to be the watchful eye on “Mountain” and the sons of “prestige”. It achieved a great public success because the audience thirsts for the character and because I performed it so convincingly that I bore his name. People I meet on the street call me “Abu Ali”. I loved Abu Ali so that he became a part of me, and I feel sad that I will leave him and move on to new characters.

Tips for the new generation

* Do you give advice behind the scenes to your employees of the new generation?

– Certainly, I believe a lot in the artistic abilities of the actors of the new generation, and I am glad that they accept advice from me as a parent and respect my experience in the field, which is now 49 years old, and I rely on them a lot in the development and continuation of the drama, they will continue our journey.

Q: You said that the prestige movie is of a new quality, so do you see a development in Arab drama?

– No one disagrees with the development of Arab drama. Finally, we are facing distinguished works since the beginning of the Arab partnership. Experiences have been exchanged, the spread has become wider, and the means of presentation have intensified between the terrestrial screen, electronic screens, digital streaming, platforms, satellite channels, and so on.

* During your artistic career, you participated in theatrical, television and film works, which one is your favorite?

– They are all an extension of Nazim Issa, the actor who resides in me and did not leave me. I loved them all, and I found similarities in the techniques of television and film work in terms of their dependence on the camera with which I have a good relationship, but the theater differs from them in that it is direct and depends on physical movement mainly.

* What role do you call the role of life?

– I was greatly influenced by the role of “Abu Ali” in the prestige, and before that the character of “Al-Mukhtar” and I played it twice in “Maleh Ya Bahr” and “Daughter of the Teacher” and was affected by being the good and gracious Mukhtar of the village, who loves his people and they appreciate him very much, and I identified with “Mukhtar” but I I chose to move to new roles so that I would not be molded into them, as I am with diversification and renewal, and as a result I played characters I loved in “Where were you”, “Nidal” and “The Peasants’ Revolution”.

* You played the role of the father more than once, so were you afraid of repeating yourself?

– There is a loving and cruel father, committed or irresponsible, and the performance of each of them differs from the others, and here lies the renewal and challenge, as the characteristics of each personality and its mission at work impose on me how to install and present it in a convincing manner.

* Do you have preparations for new business, what do you reveal to us?

I am participating in a joint Arab-Lebanese-Syrian work, which is an express version of one of the Turkish series bearing the same title as the main work “The War of Roses.” I am currently filming the second part of the series “Zahra Salon” and I contracted to participate in the series “The Stranger.”

The Russian Foreign Minister talks about his country being affected by economic sanctions! • Al Marsad newspaper

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief October 8, 2022
written by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

Al-Marsad newspaper – agencies: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned, on Saturday, that Moscow’s patience in the face of acts of economic aggression “has limits,” stressing that his country “will use all capabilities to protect its national interests if necessary.”

“We have all possibilities to protect our national interests. If necessary, we will use them to the maximum,” Lavrov told a local newspaper.

“Those who speak the language of sanctions with Russia should remember that while we are largely restrained in responding to acts of economic aggression, our patience will not be unlimited,” he added.

He added, “The disintegration of the Russian economy, as dreamed of by (former US President) Barack Obama, has not and will not be achieved.”

The Russian minister went on to say, “Everything they wanted to provoke in our country begins to appear in their own homes. A number of European countries are witnessing a sharp rise in prices, a decline in incomes, and a shortage of energy resources.”

Recently, the European Union countries agreed to impose the 8th package of sanctions once morest Russia, as a “strong response” to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s annexation of some regions of Ukraine.

Within the framework of this sanctions package, which requires the approval of the 27 member states of the European Union, some institutions and personalities will be included in the sanctions list, along with restrictions on Russian trade and imports.

The proposed sanctions by the European Commission also provide for a ceiling on the prices of Russian oil exported to other countries.
