2023 UAE Federal National Council Elections: Taking a Closer Look at the Hybrid Model and Candidates

2023-10-04 19:49:28

Dubai: The 2023 UAE Federal National Council elections began today. The three-day election will end on October 7 (Saturday).

This is the first time that hybrid model FNC elections are being conducted in the UAE. Many people came from morning to cast their votes. UAE nationals can cast their vote at one of the designated polling centers or online.

Since it is a hybrid model FNC election, many volunteers have been deployed at the checkpoints to guide the voters.

Once a voter enters the center, their face is scanned to ensure their eligibility and they are admitted to the next stage. After the scanning process is completed, they can cast their vote at any machine. By making the voting process easier, it is hoped that more people will vote.

A total of 309 candidates are contesting for the 20 FNC seats allotted for this year’s elections. The number of candidates in each emirate is 118 in Abu Dhabi, 57 in Dubai, 50 in Sharjah, 21 in Ajman, 34 in Ras Al Khaimah, 14 in Umm Al Quwain and 15 in Fujairah. The final list has 41 percent representation of women and 59 percent of men.
