How important are operating system updates?

Microsoft and other operating system developers install updates for good reasons, so it’s a good idea to take the time to set your system update settings for the following reasons:
– Updates enhance the security of the system, as it is known, malware is constantly evolving, so your system must keep pace with developments, and “Microsoft” may not support old versions of “Windows”, which increases the risk of infection with viruses and other malware. In practice, some updates close security holes, making it more difficult for cybercriminals to steal your personal information.
Updates facilitate compatibility with new software, as technologies evolve and new software is released every day, and these new software – especially device drivers, such as printer software – work better with recent versions of Windows.
– Updates make the computer run faster, as “Microsoft” sometimes makes improvements to “Windows” through updates, so, you may find that your system is more responsive and efficient following the update.

Windows 7 and 8.1 update

Windows 7 still holds a large share of the market even following the release of the Windows 10 operating system. Some users love simplicity, but Windows 8.1 did not enjoy the expected popularity, but this version is still officially supported by Microsoft. .
It is noteworthy that both versions have similar update procedures as well, which are:
– Click on the “Start” button.
Click on Control Panel on the left side, where another window will appear.
Click on the link shown in a large green font “System and Security / Update and security”.
– Click on Windows Update.
Click on Get Up and Running in the left sidebar to check for new updates. To perform the operation, the computer must be connected to the Internet.
The Windows Update feature will let you know if your system is up to date, and if not, the feature will show you some updates to install. Then, click Install updates if there are updates.
Wait for the updates to finish, and feel free to use your computer while downloading.
Restart the device to finish the installation.

Set up Windows to update itself automatically

You can set up Windows to update itself automatically. In addition, you can:
Choosing a convenient time to check for updates, so you can pick a time when your computer is not likely to be used since updates generally require a restart.
Select whether you want optional updates to be installed automatically.
Allow trusted users to install updates on the device. However, be careful not to give children administrator powers.

How to update Windows 10

Windows 10 automatically downloads and installs updates in the background. When a computer restart is required, Windows notifies you in advance and allows you to decide whether you want to restart immediately or at a later time. But keep in mind that no matter how long you delay the restart, Windows will eventually need a restart.
However, you can manually check for new updates.
Open the Windows 10 Settings menu from the Start button or the flag icon at the bottom right of the taskbar.
Click on the Update and security icon.
Click on Windows Update to be taken to the next screen.
Click the Get Up and Running button.

Troubleshoot update failures

If Windows Update fails or an error occurs, follow these steps to troubleshoot the error:
First: Make sure your computer is connected to the Internet.
Second: Try to restart the computer and restart the update tool once more.
Third: If the update fails once more, go to Settings, then Update and security, then click Troubleshoot and click Windows Update under the Get Up and Running heading, then follow Instructions to solve the problem.
