Delivery problems: Forced vacation for Lada workforce – news.ORF.at
Due to acute supply problems, the Russian Lada producer AvtoVAS is sending its workforce collectively on vacation for three weeks from the end of May. “In the spring of 2023, a number of component suppliers informed AwtoWAS regarding the end of deliveries,” the group told the Interfax news agency today.
Auto industry hit hard by sanctions
The company, which was taken back by the Russian state last year, complained that previous delivery agreements had been broken with the termination. The auto industry is one of the sectors in the country hardest hit by Western sanctions following the start of the Russian war of aggression.
Actually, the assembly lines at AwtoWAS were not supposed to be shut down for three weeks until the end of July and the workforce sent on vacation. The compulsory leave is now being brought forward by two months and is scheduled to last from May 29th to June 19th. Otherwise, uninterrupted production would not be possible anyway, according to AwtoWAS.
Market slumps already in the previous year
Last year, the group had to shut down production for months due to problems with accessories. Because practically all Western carmakers have withdrawn from Russia, AvtoVAZ has expanded its market leadership, but due to these difficulties it has not been able to benefit particularly from the withdrawal of the competition. With an overall market slump of 59 percent in 2022, Lada sales also fell 46 percent.
More than 300 deaths from tuberculosis recorded in Ituri in 2022
Three hundred and ninety people died of tuberculosis out of the 11,796 affected by this disease in 2022 in Ituri. These figures were published on Wednesday March 29 in Bunia by the provincial coordinator of the Tuberculosis Control Program (PNLT).
To fight once morest this scourge, the provincial coordination launched since Wednesday in Bunia an awareness tour, particularly in universities.
Doctor Justin Mukonkole, provincial coordinator of the PNLT, specifies that nine health zones including that of Bunia are strongly affected by this disease.
He invites the population to strengthen the protection mechanisms by avoiding closed places as well as contact with the sick:
“Starting with the Higher Medical Institute (ISTM Bunia), we know that it is the students who will be the future service providers. To this end, we ask the population, as soon as you find a sick person or a coughing person, go directly to the nearest health center,” he said.
For this doctor, the best way to fight once morest tuberculosis is to detect all these patients who are still hiding at home and put them on treatment, in order to break the chain of transmission.
This PNLT campaign is part of the International Tuberculosis Day, whose national theme for this year is: “Yes, together we can put an end to tuberculosis in the DRC”.
