Pedro Bial: “Not taking yourself seriously is liberating”

Journalist Pedro Bial built one of the most successful careers on Brazilian television. A former international correspondent, Bial witnessed events that marked the 20th century – such as the implosion of the Soviet Union – but recognizes that he became really known by the masses when he started to command the reality show Big Brother Brasil, in 2002.
Journalist, presenter, filmmaker, writer and poet, Bial recalls moments from his career spanning more than 40 years at Globo in this episode of The Business of Life podcast, hosted by Nilton Bonder.
“I was very lucky to be at the right time and in the right place. Soon following I arrived in London, the world began to fall into my lap, in 1989. The iron curtain ends, communism dies, there are revolutions, wars… It was a time when Globo invested a lot in international journalism,” says Bial.
At the age of 65, he experienced up close the transformations that TV faced with the advent of social networks. The BBB was Globo’s first product with full interaction with the internet.
Ahead of the reality show for 14 seasons, Bial talks regarding the personal challenge it was to embrace the role of communicator. “I had to strip myself of defenses that were worth me when I was just a journalist. I had to surrender. It was really nice to have the chance to not take myself seriously on national television,” recalls the presenter. “And not taking yourself seriously is liberating.”
Today in charge of the Conversa com Bial program, the journalist also talks regarding the culture of cancellation and digital militancy. “I am hated by petistas and hated by bolsonaristas. So, I’m doing something right,” says Bial.
In this conversation with Bonder, Bial also talks regarding his Jewish origins, the influences of his parents on his intellectual formation and the refuge he finds in poetry.

With a release date still unknown, the Jabra 8 Active and Elite 10 TWS Bluetooth headsets appeared this Friday (11) in new renderings that reveal the possible design and construction of the devices. The pictures show that both models have an in-ear format with passive noise cancellation.
Apparently, there is no physical button on the headphones and music player control is done through touches on the side of the devices, an area that must support touch input. They should also share active noise cancellation (ANC), which significantly reduces outside sounds.
