There are many strategy players who have sat down with Frostpunk and experienced what it really takes to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. The harsh reality is not something most people are prepared for, so the game loop ends up being quite a challenge. Developer Core Engage has taken a look at what made Frostpunk so popular and decided to tone down the difficulty a bit, all in its upcoming city-building strategy game New Cycle, which I saw firsthand while in Cologne for Gamescom 2023 got this game. The developers told me that New Cycle was inspired by the Frostpunk and Anno series, and while it does have a post-apocalyptic setting (this time caused by a solar flare), the gameplay is designed to feel more upbeat and demanding. Low. You still need to develop a city from scratch, which involves choosing a suitable starting location and then intelligently allocating resources and workers so that you can operate and manage different facilities and buildings to generate the additional resources needed to expand the size of your town. This includes creating and distributing people to hunt for food in the wilderness and cut down trees for wood, all in preparation for more advanced mechanical systems that become commonplace as the gameplay progresses and provide for faster, more sustainable Resource production opens the door, and of course the ability to brew beer to keep spirits high. From what I saw in the gameplay, the start of the settlement is pretty standard for a city building space, but as it grows in size, it almost becomes more similar to Factorio, with a more industrial, crammed-in style Lots of conveyor belts and stuff. To keep things interesting, New Cycle will introduce seasons that affect gameplay, such as making survival much more difficult, in addition to a weather system that throws even more wrenches into the works. On top of that, you can fiddle with an extensive skill tree to make your city and its inhabitants more efficient. It’s all laid out on top of the narrative, with players tasked with making decisions that impact the story and even the world in which the town is located. Here’s an ad: It’s important to mention that New Cycle isn’t just regarding what exists within town boundaries. You can send explorers into the wilds to find additional resources or even find other settlements, which you can control and increase your influence at the cost of having more systems and people to manage them. The world is meant to be explored and documented, and you need to do so if you want to continue expanding and developing your city. To ensure you get the most out of the environment and the buildings you create, Core Engage has designed New Cycle with a variety of analytics and information systems that show where resources are located around the world and how effective your buildings are before the foundations are actually laid. . These systems also keep track of how happy your residents are, as they become less influential and responsive, have lower morals, and may even start to rebel if their morals get too low. But thankfully, this is where beer comes back into the equation, because there’s no better way to cheer up a post-apocalyptic survivor than an ice-cold beer. Here’s an ad: As you can see, New Cycle is shaping up to be a fairly deep and complex city-building strategy game when it comes to Early Access on PC over the winter. There’s no time frame on how long the game will remain an EA project, but Core Engage did tell me that more advanced production levels will be added as EA progresses, as well as other features and builds before the eventual 1.0 release.

“Apprenticeship shines like gold” – 31,300 apprentices in their first year of training
2023-09-10 10:10:03
Austria’s “dual training” impresses with EuroSkills – 328 apprenticeships
Linz (OTS) – Despite all the – often general – criticism of the Austrian education system, the Austrian “dual system” of apprenticeship training must be excluded because it is an excellent one in the truest sense of the word, states the Upper Austrian Business Location Initiative (IWS). With seven gold, six silver and five bronze medals, Austria was the most successful of all 32 participating nations at this year’s European Skills Championships – the so-called EuroSkills – in Gdansk. “We particularly congratulate the medal winners, but also on behalf of all apprentices and training companies throughout Austria,” emphasizes IWS CEO Gottfried Kneifel.
With all due respect for an exclusively school-scientific educational career, the advantages of “dual training” should once once more be “brought to light”:
- Immediate professional experience with continuous knowledge transfer
- Earn your own money immediately
- Maximum practical relevance in the company
- High chances of being taken on, good job opportunities
- Further training opportunities, apprenticeships with a high school diploma – no dead end
There are currently almost 225 apprenticeships in Austria. If you add all the variants with focal points and main modules, you get a total of 328 apprenticeships. There are currently around 31,300 apprentices employed in their first year of training – and the trend is rising.

A 24-year-old man died during the night from Saturday to Sunday while swimming in Waasmunster, near Dendermonde. Accompanied by two friends, he was in a place where swimming is prohibited.
The tragedy occurred in the Hamput, a former deep sand quarry with steep walls approximately thirteen meters deep, in Waasmunster in Flanders. A group of young people decided to cool off there because of the heat but one of them did not survive.
The man felt unwell following diving into the water. Firefighters pulled him out of the water and tried to resuscitate him, without success.
His friends, in shock, were supported by the police and a victim support service.
