Blancpain and Swatch are joining forces for an unlimited collection of five models full of joie de vivre, colors and technicality. Together, the two Swatch Group brands dive into the five oceans of the blue planet, combining the best of both brands with innovative watchmaking products, in bioceramics, waterproof and with a mechanical movement with a 90-hour power reserve.
The two brands have come together to create a collection of five watches called Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Collection. Each model celebrates one of the five oceans, the preservation of which is so important to Blancpain. It was therefore obvious to choose the Fifty Fathoms by Blancpain, a watch born exactly seventy years ago and which revolutionized watchmaking by becoming the first true diver’s watch.
These five Blancpain X Swatch models are made of bioceramic, a unique and patented blend composed of two-thirds ceramic and one-third biomaterials derived from castor oil. Although the colors chosen for this collaboration clearly indicate that this is not a classic Blancpain watch, all fans and enthusiasts will recognize at first glance multiple criteria and characteristics of the iconic Fifty Fathoms, but also nods to Swatch’s Scuba collection.
The main specificities of the Fifty Fathoms are all present in the Swatch version. The typical case, its unidirectional rotating bezel for measuring dive time and its self-winding movement protected from magnetic fields, in this case the SISTEM51 fitted with the antimagnetic Nivachron™ hairspring.

Hayek, who himself relaunched the Fifty Fathoms in 2003, was also won over by the tribute paid to nudibranchs on the rotor of the SISTEM51 mechanical movement. “These sea animals are pure wonders of nature. By their improbable shapes and their often shimmering colors, it is a great pleasure to observe them in their element during a dive. They arouse an effect of serenity and cause appeasement. The new collection of five watches, in new and never seen colors for the original Fifty Fathoms, gives a strong playful touch to Blancpain’s iconic diver’s watch. Each model features the common Blancpain X Swatch logos on the dial and crown. The NATO straps are made from recycled fishing nets, pulled from the bottom of the oceans.

“Japanese luxury brands are adrift. Acura and Infiniti are going very badly,” he explains.
The increase in car prices means that there are almost no more models under the $20,000 mark.
“There are absolutely no more. All that remains is the Mitsubishi Mirage, which will say goodbye to us in 2024. It has already disappeared from the American market, but remains in Canada this year. However, only a few hundred units will be sold”, underlines the specialist.
