The newest survey of Canalys regarding the smartphone market in Latin America points out that the Apple followed the general industry trend in the region and saw the number of iPhone shipments decline in Q2 2023.
Although it still occupies the same 5% share in the Latin market, Apple saw a decrease in the number of shipments by 8% — which, translating into absolute numbers, represents a drop of 1.5 million units shipped in the same period of the year passed to 1.4 million in this year.
Although negative, the company’s numbers were not so disastrous if we compare them to the market as a whole, which fell 14% and registered a shipment of 27.9 million units in the quarter, once morest 32.2 million in the second quarter of the year past.
The biggest falls were from Samsung (-19%), and Motorola (-18%) is yes Xiaomi (-14%), whose shipments were respectively 9.4 million (market share 34%), 5.7 million (21%) and 4.6 million (17%) remittances in the period.
A Transsiona Chinese manufacturer that has been gaining space in the regional market, was the positive point of the quarter, with 2.1 million shipments sent (an increase of 56% compared to 2022) and market share 7%—higher than Apple’s, it’s worth noting.
For Canalys, despite the drop, the smartphone market shows signs of recovery in Latin America, largely thanks to “increased consumer confidence, improvements in inventory levels and the focus of smartphone suppliers on key segments”.
The company even cites the growth trend of the economy in Brazil — a country that was classified in the publication as one of the three powers in the region — as one of the factors that influence this positive expectation.
