After seven tough rounds of negotiations, the employer and employee sides in the trade managed to conclude the collective agreement negotiations on Wednesday. The GPA union explained this via a broadcast. Accordingly, the salaries of the 430,000 retail employees should be increased by between 9.2 and 8.3 percent. This means an average increase in salaries of 8.43 percent. The minimum salary for young professionals should also be increased, namely from 2,000 euros to 2,124 euros. Apprentice incomes will be increased to 880 euros in the first year of training, to 1,130 euros in the second year of training and to 1,430 euros in the third year of training, which, according to a release from the GPA union, corresponds to an increase of ten percent.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Dec. 27, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Future Minerals Forum (FMF), scheduled to take place January 9-11 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, today announced three new strategic partnerships to advance the discourse global discussion on minerals and their fundamental role in sustainable global development and the need to transition to new energy sources. New partnerships with CRU Group, Global AI and Wood Mackenzie will provide business intelligence and insights in a series of studies to be published before the FMF takes place. They complement current partnerships with McKinsey & Company, the Payne Institute for Public Policy, Clareo-DPI and the Baker Institute.
Wood Mackenzie is starting a fundamental study to identify the potential of the Super Region. The document will identify key drivers for creating sustainable value chains, as well as highlight current challenges facing global minerals and how they impact the minerals sector in this resource-rich area. This report will serve as an essential guide for stakeholders, setting out what can be achieved through government and market collaboration as the region seeks to unlock its resource potential to further enable the energy transition.
Global AI is ready to perform a comprehensive analysis of global sentiment using cutting-edge artificial intelligence, focusing on mining and minerals operations across the Super Region. This analysis aims to clarify society’s perception to support dialogue regarding the roles that governments, the private sector and civil society must play in order to guarantee the social license to act, ensuring that mining operations bring tangible benefits to local communities and minimize the impact on the environment.
Meanwhile, the CRU report will highlight the urgency of addressing critical mineral bottlenecks in meeting climate targets, with a focus on the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia as important future suppliers.
Together, these insights align with the FMF’s mission to enable the development of sustainable minerals sectors, place the Super Region at the forefront of the global minerals debate, and guide responsible mining practices. The FMF, as a multi-stakeholder government platform, aims to catalyze dialogue between industry leaders, policymakers and stakeholders to promote progress towards a more sustainable and prosperous future with respect to mineral development.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un called for his country to “accelerate war preparations”, including its nuclear weapons program, state media reported Thursday. He cited a “serious political and military situation”.
During the plenary meeting of the central committee of the Korean Workers’ Party, the annual high mass of the single ruling party in North Korea, Kim Jong-un ordered “the people’s army, the munitions industry, nuclear weapons and civil defense sectors to accelerate war preparations,” according to the official KCNA news agency.
The leader made this call because of “the serious political and military situation on the Korean Peninsula which has reached an extreme point”, added KCNA, referring to “unprecedented confrontational maneuvers by the United States and its vassal forces in history”.
Reconciliation with Moscow
North Korea has conducted a record number of ballistic missile tests this year, in violation of numerous UN Security Council resolutions. In 2023, it engraved its status as a nuclear power in its constitution, successfully launched a military spy satellite and also successfully tested the Hwasong-18, the most powerful intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) in its arsenal, capable of reach the United States.
For their part, the United States, South Korea and Japan have intensified their military cooperation, activating a real-time data sharing system on North Korean missile launches and increasing joint military maneuvers in the region.
The American armed forces have notably sent to South Korea in recent months the nuclear-powered submarine USS Missouri, the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan and a B-52 strategic bomber, each time provoking the anger of North Korea .
Pyongyang sees the military maneuvers on its doorstep as a rehearsal for a future invasion of its territory, and has long viewed its missile tests as necessary “countermeasures.”
Always supported by China, North Korea has recently moved closer to Russia. According to KCNA, Kim Jong-un also called during the party meeting to “expand and develop strategic cooperation relations with independent and anti-imperialist countries.”
