Closure of public wakes forces private ones to become more expensive – news

The wakes of the National Police, Firefighters, Army Headquarters (formerly RI 20), Cruzeiro and Kilamba are among the most popular spaces for Luandenses when unhappiness “knocks at the door”, with a cost starting at 150 thousand kwanzas for every 24 hours of use. The Provincial Government of Luanda recognizes the constraints and guarantees the reopening soon of the only two public wakes that are currently closed for works
The closure of the only two public wakes that exist in Luanda, namely the Cemitério da Santa Ana and Benfica, is forcing the prices of spaces for private initiatives to increase, which creates serious constraints for many citizens when they are faced with situations of unhappiness.
The Luanda Provincial Wake, in the Santa Ana Cemetery, built in 2012, was closed in 2019 as part of measures to combat Covid-19. For the same reasons, the existing one at the Benfica Cemetery, both built with public funds, was also closed.
Consequently, with the closure of these two establishments, many citizens who live in “cramped” spaces, unable to pay for a private wake, whose initial costs start at 150 thousand kwanzas for a 24-hour period of use, are forced to carry out the death of their loved ones in inappropriate places such as the street, parking lot or requesting help from neighbors who have larger backyards.
