Sonils experience can be replicated in Namibia – Jornal OPaís
The Secretary of State for Oil and Gas, José Barroso, said yesterday, in Luanda, that the experience of the Sonils logistics center supporting the oil industry can be successfully replicated in Namibia. José Barroso, who was speaking on the sidelines of the visit of Namibian President Nangolo Mbumba, indicated that Sonils has responded to the challenges and technical operational needs that operators demand. From this perspective, the Secretary of State said that in 2022 Sonangol, for Angola, and Namcor Namport, for Namibia, signed a memorandum of understanding that aims to establish a logistics base, similar to Sonils in the Republic of Namibia.
President Nangolo Mbumba learned regarding the operation of Sonils, which supports 65 percent of Angola’s global oil production. On this visit, the Namibian Head of State, in addition to learning regarding the importance of this infrastructure for the oil industry, learned that 151 companies operated at the Sonils base, of which 40% were national, which move more than three thousand workers daily. In brief statements to the press, the President of Namibia expressed that Angola has extensive experience in the oil sector and Sonils’ scientific know-how should contribute not only to the Angolan oil industry, but also to other African countries.
On the occasion, the Minister of Transport, Ricardo D’Abreu, reaffirmed that the Sonils logistics terminal is strategic for the country’s oil and gas production. The general director of Sonils, Ana Bela Marcos, reinforced that since its creation in 1995, this base has positioned itself as the main logistical support company for the oil and gas industry in Angola.
Regarding the visit of the President of Namibia to the Sonils base, the manager said that it takes place within the framework of a cooperation proposal between the two countries, as Namibia is in an emerging position in the discovery of oil and Angola has an experience of over 28 years old. Integrated into the Port of Luanda, in an area of two million square meters, Sonils is dedicated to onshore supply, with the aim of maximizing competitiveness among oil operators and contributing to the reduction of operational costs.
Russia threatens Northern Europe if it receives nuclear equipment from the USA – Jornal OPaís
Russian authorities warned yesterday of the possible consequences of sending US nuclear equipment to Northern Europe, ensuring that they would be considered “legitimate targets in the event of a confrontation” between Russia and NATO.
“You don’t need to be a military strategist to understand that this would pose a direct threat” to Russia, said the country’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova.
“Naturally, [esses equipamentos] would inevitably be included in the list of legitimate targets in different direct collision scenarios”, he added.
The spokesperson, cited by the Russian news agency Interfax, stressed that the Finnish authorities “did not inform their citizens of the risks they would run if they allowed these installations to be placed” in the country following its accession to the Atlantic Alliance in April 2023. .
Zakharova criticized the words of Finnish President Alexander Stubb, who allowed a review of the country’s main “legislative lines, which currently prohibit the placement of military weapons on Finnish territory” and stated that “this [postura] worries Russia”.
“If this type of weapons appears in Northern Europe, the security of these countries will not only not increase but will clearly suffer a setback, because other countries on the continent (…) will have to take this into account,” he said.
Finland has the military alliance’s longest land border with Russia – 1,340 kilometers – and is one of the most active European providers of military and civilian aid to Ukraine.
