An application was also filed in the court to ban the short video sharing application ‘Tik Tok’ on Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) in Pakistan.
The government of Pakistan banned Tik Tok three days ago for not removing immoral, obscene and inappropriate content.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) banned TikTok across the country on October 9, following which many people started using VPN to run the app.
Not only can ordinary users access controversial and country-restricted Internet content through VPN, but such software is also used by businesses and especially banks.
Although the government of Pakistan has instructed the public to register for using VPN software within a month, millions of people are still using VPNs without registration.
After one month, VPN software will be available only to those who have provided account details of a VPN software to the government through registration.
But currently VPN is being used by common people without registration and Tik Tok is also being run by the same softwares.
However, an application was also filed in the Lahore High Court once morest running Tik Tok through VPN, which will be heard on October 13.
A citizen of Lahore filed a petition in the High Court through lawyer Nadeem Sarwar and requested the court to issue orders to block Tik Tok even on VPN.
In the petition, Tik Tok has been described as an app that spreads obscenity and it has been said that boys and girls are making obscene videos and sharing them on other apps to gain popularity on Tik Tok.
In the application, the incident of a girl who was gang-raped by a TikTok friend in Lahore was also described and the court was informed that obscene content was being spread through the said app.
The petition told the court that following PTA banned Tik Tok, people started using it through VPN and the court should issue orders to stop the said app through softwares as well.
A single bench of the Lahore High Court will hear the petition of the citizen on October 13.
It should be noted that regarding the ban on Tik Tok, many well-known Tik Talkers have expressed mixed reactions and said that a temporary ban can be imposed on the said app, but a complete ban on Tik Tok is not the solution to the problem.
According to popular TikTokers, the government should issue strict orders to app management to remove controversial and obscene content and ensure that inappropriate content is not uploaded.
