Coffee lovers in Massachusetts have a new, supersized option to consider: Dunkin’ is currently testing massive 48-ounce “bucket” drinks at select locations across the state. The new offering, more than double the size of Dunkin’s extra-large 24-ounce beverage, is part of a limited test run and comes equipped with a unique lid and straw to handle the volume.
The introduction of the 48oz bucket drink follows a viral trend on TikTok over the summer, where users showcased their own DIY bucket coffees. Dunkin’ appears to be capitalizing on this enthusiasm, offering a commercially available version of the popular social media creation. Massachusetts has a history of being a testing ground for Dunkin’, with the company frequently experimenting with new products and flavors within the commonwealth.
Pricing and Options for the New Dunkin’ Buckets
Customers can currently choose from a variety of options within the 48oz bucket. According to signage at participating locations, a refresher option is available for $9.49, while coffee options start at $8.89. The test is currently limited, with confirmed locations including 175 University Dr. In Amherst, MassLive reports. Social media posts suggest the buckets may also be available in Falmouth, New Bedford, and Lee, New Hampshire, though these locations have not been officially confirmed by Dunkin’.
A History of Innovation at Dunkin’
This isn’t the first time Dunkin’ has used Massachusetts to trial new products. The company has previously tested flavors like blueberry cobbler coffee and “ElectroBrew” in the state. In 2020, Dunkin’ also experimented with Popping Bubble Iced Tea, Sparkling Dunkin’ Refreshers, Summer Shandies, and Bubble Iced Coffee, all initially launched in Massachusetts before potential wider rollout. MassLive details Dunkin’s ongoing product development and testing initiatives.
Beyond the Bucket: Recent Dunkin’ Developments
The 48oz bucket isn’t the only recent development from Dunkin’. The company recently unveiled a Super Bowl commercial spoofing the film “Good Will Hunting” and featuring Tom Brady. Dunkin’ also recently partnered with Brownie Brittle to launch new coffee and donut snack flavors, and introduced a ‘90s-themed pop-up experience as a teaser for future announcements. Dunkin’ offered free coffee and food deals following Super Bowl 60, despite the New England Patriots’ loss.
But, not all Dunkin’ news has been positive. A Dunkin’ supplier recently closed, resulting in 63 layoffs for Massachusetts workers. And a Dunkin’ location in East Longmeadow recently faced customer backlash over signage incorrectly stating “Longmeadow Runs Dunkin’,” despite being located in the neighboring town of East Longmeadow. WNAW reported on the signage controversy, highlighting the community’s strong sense of local pride.
The limited test of the 48oz bucket drinks provides a glimpse into Dunkin’s ongoing efforts to innovate and cater to evolving consumer preferences. It remains to be seen whether the buckets will become a permanent fixture on the Dunkin’ menu, or if they will remain a limited-time offering.
