30,000 euros for each young person aged 25 to invest in their future: Ecolo offers universal solidarity capital

This measure would cost 2.5 billion euros per year and would be financed by a 1% tax on the assets of the percent of Belgians who are the richest, which would ensure its redistributive nature. “1% of the richest Belgians own 660 billion euros”, Ecolo co-president Rajae Maouane told RTBF. She added that the KUL had calculated that a 1% tax on this capital would yield some 6 billion euros.

“Our proposal is to dedicate half of this sum to young“, had indicated Saturday the co-president of Ecolo Rajae Maouane, by revealing the proposal in the DH.

The proposal was presented to activists at the congress held in Brussels. It is, explained Rajae Mouane, in an interview with RTBF, “a proposal that is there to help young people to get started in life, to get started, to find accommodation, to resume studies, to embark on training, to launch a start-up, to help them get started”. This is “a solution for” those who do not have the possibility of having a dad, mom or another“, added Rajae Maouane, at the microphone of RTBF.

According to Ecolo, each year, this measure would affect around 125,000 young people aged 25.
