50 Shades of Left in Wallonia: MR Provocatively on Display in Belgium’s Political Hot Spots

“In Wallonia, there are 50 shades of left… and us”: the MR displays itself provocatively in the hot spots of Belgium

The MR emphasizes that the left wants fewer rich people while its troops want fewer poor people? The PS responds with “50 shades of rich”. On the left, we tax the rich, on the right, the “Movement of the Rich” only “protects the rich”. A good-natured response, one might say, to the one who accused them of the “Nap Party”.

The MR denounces the 50 shades of the left? DéFI prides itself on being the party of nuance.

At Ecolo, we claim to be above the fray…

…capitalizing on an old competition meme.

These diversions are reminiscent of the memes that emerged in France when Nicolas Sarkozy launched his “La France Forte” campaign, in 2012. The right-wing candidate, for whom Georges-Louis Bouchez has never hidden his admiration, had unveiled a poster showing him in front of a peaceful sea. This poster had been parodied many times.

It seems that the same phenomenon might occur in Belgium. And we are only at the start of the electoral campaign…

The possibilities are limitless.

At the MR, we are delighted to see that “everyone has fallen for it”. The objective was to create a campaign that might be easily “diverted” so that the message would be carried by the competition. “That’s our goal. Now everyone has integrated our visuals and everyone is talking regarding us.”
