Cork‘s own Finbarr Galvin Ltd is marking a significant milestone this year: its 50th anniversary.
What began as a humble one-bay garage in bandon in 1975 has blossomed into a respected dealership.
Founded by the late Finbarr Galvin, the business is now steered by his son, Justin Galvin.
Remarkably, many employees have dedicated two, three, or even four decades to the dealership.
The family commitment continues with Finbarr’s brother Moss and his sons playing vital roles.
“We’re incredibly proud to mark 50 years in business,” shared Justin Galvin.
He noted the dramatic shifts, from fuel crises and economic downturns to the rise of electric vehicles and digital retailing.
Despite technological advancements, the dealership’s core values remain unchanged.
“I don’t believe customer expectations have changed, customers have always expected good service,” Justin explained. “If a person is looked after properly, they tend to return. That’s how we’ve built generations of loyalty.”
Finbarr Galvin Ltd actively supports numerous local clubs and charities.
These include GAA, camogie, golf, and soccer clubs, alongside organizations like My Lovely Horse Rescue.
To commemorate thier golden anniversary, an open week is scheduled for October.
This event will offer a chance for both long-standing patrons and new visitors to connect with the team.
Looking ahead, Justin Galvin anticipates rapid industry changes.
“The car market will change more in the next five years than it has in the last 30. You can’t control the market. But you can adapt to it,” he stated.
The evolution of automotive repair is striking.
“Fifteen years ago, our mechanics were mainly repairing gearboxes and engines. Now, our top technicians are standing at laptops, connecting the car directly. It’s a new world.”
Justin highlighted the invaluable contribution of his staff.
“If someone is working here, they’re not working for us, they’re working with us. That family-style ethos makes a huge difference.”
