60 women have been murdered in Nicaragua so far in 2024, according to NGO

At least 60 Nicaraguan women were murdered because of the gender-based violence so far in 2024, in their own country or abroad, the feminist organization reported today Saturday Catholics for the Right to Decidechapter Nicaragua.

Nicaragua, a country traditionally dominated by men, recorded 74 violent deaths of Nicaraguan women (22 abroad) last year, 68 in 2022 (11 abroad), 72 in 2021 and a similar amount in 2020, according to the feminist association.

The Nicaraguan government continues to reopen the Women’s Police Stationsafter dismantling them several years ago, and launched the booklet “Women, Rights, Laws and Reporting Mechanisms for the Prevention of Femicide”“to educate about gender-based violence.
