Now the questioning of the 79-year-old Serb begins; his answers are confused and illogical. When the judge says that he shot his grandson’s wife with six bullets, the accused interrupts him. “If I had a thousand bullets, I would have fired them all.”

The judge quotes the indictment, which writes of a vindictive reckoning. “Not even half of it is true,” replies the accused. The judge goes on to say that, according to the indictment, he wanted to save the family’s honor because they had abandoned his grandson. “What do you say regarding this accusation?” asks the judge. “I didn’t want to kill my granddaughter-in-law,” replies the accused.

The judge wants to know why he took a revolver with him to Switzerland and when he visited his granddaughter-in-law in Winterthur. “Only God knows that,” he replies.
