80-year-old woman falls into pond and dies after being grabbed by alligators

An 80-year-old woman suffered a horrific death Friday night in Florida.

At approximately 8:15 p.m., the lady fell into a pond near a golf course in the town of Englewood, Sarasota County. The octogenarian struggled to get out of the water and was grabbed by two alligators, local authorities said.

Emergency services pronounced him dead at the scene. However, it is not yet known whether she drowned or whether the two reptiles caused her death.

An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of his death.

An alligator trapper extricated the two alligators from the pond. One of them measured nearly 2.7 meters in length, while the other stretched over 2.3m.

According to the Fish and Animal Conservation Commission, serious injuries from alligators are extremely rare in Florida, where more than a million of these reptiles live. In 2021, only nine alligator bites were recorded.
