“Una piña colada”, laughs Mme Dumas-Joyal, leaning her elbows in a bar in Tulum. The footage was taken by influencer Rachel Cantin, one of the controversial public figures celebrating in Mexico and making media headlines since the start of the week.

His employer, the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), laughed a little less when he saw these images.

“The Authority learned with amazement the facts surrounding one of its employees. We dissociate ourselves completely from the actions of the latter and deplore the events which have occurred ”, affirms to the Journal Sylvain Théberge, AMF spokesperson.

“The employee in question was fired,” he confirms. Mr. Théberge declined to say the job she held and the specific reasons that led to this decision yesterday.

According to her LinkedIn page, Frédérique Dumas-Joyal had been working as an information officer for the AMF since 2017. She also studied law at Laval University. Interestingly, again according to this social network, she is a student at the École du Barreau de Québec.

Our requests for an interview with Ms. Dumas-Joyal went unanswered yesterday. Since the publication of the video with a thong on her mouth, she has also deleted her Instagram account.

Sutton Quebec indicates for its part that it will suspend Karl Bernard, one of its real estate brokers, who party on the controversial Sunwing theft on December 30.

“The suspension request to the regulator is pending, but normally there is a 24-48 hour delay. […] In our jargon, a suspension corresponds to a dismissal, ”says Julie Gaucher, vice-president and chief operating officer of Sutton Quebec.

In a video obtained by the Journal, Mr. Bernard has a loudspeaker in his hand and swaying his hips with a group partying in the cabin. In his images, no one is wearing the mask. This party in an airplane caused a commotion at home, but also internationally.

“Please believe that this is not a pleasant situation and that we disapprove of this type of behavior at all times. We are there to serve and protect the public and not to serve our own interests and our image, ”insists Julie Gaucher.

Karl Bernard did not respond to our interview requests regarding his suspension. The Organisme d’autoréglementation du courtage immobilier du Québec has also been sparse in commenting on this subject.

“The OACIQ will keep a watchful eye on any repercussions within the limits of the Organism’s legislative competence”, one mentions in an email.
