Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva could not hold back her tears after the announcement of the scores for the free program at the Beijing Olympics.
Valieva was the leader in the short program, but in the free program she made a number of mistakes and took the final fourth place.
“But the ceremony will not be canceled,” Valieva told the coach Eteri Tutberidze.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) said that the awards ceremony in women’s competitions would not take place if Valieva took a place in the top three, as an anti-doping investigation was underway against a 15-year-old Russian woman.
