On Monday evening, Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke (Greens) was asked on the evening news about the Ukraine crisis and Germany’s new goal of getting away from Putin’s gas as quickly as possible. Is she now ready to clear planning hurdles in order to accelerate the expansion of renewable energies? Lemke paused briefly and then spoke of the red kite, the bird of prey that conservationists prefer to use to prevent wind turbines. New studies have shown that “wind turbines are not that dangerous for us, the main risk is road traffic”.
