Wall Street’s three major US stock indexes closed lower on Thursday at the end of a shorter week due to the Good Friday holiday, as bond yields resumed their upward rally.
The rise in 10-year Treasury yields put pressure on growth stocks, which negatively affected the Standard & Poor’s and Nasdaq indices, while the Dow Jones recorded a modest loss. According to the preliminary data,
The Standard & Poor’s index lost 54.38 points, or 1.22%, to close at 4,392.21 points, while the Nasdaq Composite Index lost 293.67 points, or 2.15 percent, to 13,349.92 points. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was not better than its predecessors, as it also fell 109.83 points, or 0.32 percent, to 34454.76 points.
