The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) began registering prisoners of war evacuated from the Azovstal steelworksincluding the wounded, at the request of both parties, the Committee reported in a note detailing that so far it has registered “hundreds” of them.
The search operation began on Tuesday and continued today. The recognition process includes a module with personal data, such as date of birth and closest relative.
“This information allows the ICRC to follow those who have been captured and help them stay in contact with their families,” the note says. The question remains as to where the Ukrainian prisoners are taken once registered.
