Since the end of his career in 2015, Ferdinand has become a regular pundit on British channel BT Sport and has even played a few pro boxing matches.
Beyond that, Rio has also helped produce socially engaged documentaries, such as Peckham, a film that encourages young residents of the eponymous London Borough to avoid falling into gang-related crime. A project close to his heart, after having tragically lost his wife.
The former centre-back was also awarded the Order of Britain for his foundation set up in 2012 which aims to address the issues of inequality he himself may have faced growing up in Peckham. In a decade, his association has helped more than 10,000 young people.
