Convicts of online hate crimes denied entry to stadiums

British prosecutors confirmed on Wednesday evening that fans convicted of online hate crimes related to football will be banned from entering stadiums.

British courts might have issued a so-called “football ban” for personal crimes, but the Public Prosecution Office indicated that it would require the courts to impose tougher penalties on supporters “intent on hateful behaviour”, including racist abuse.

The statement added: The new legal provisions will allow for stadium bans to be issued for violations that involve racial discrimination or other hateful forms of discrimination that occur online.

The Public Prosecution Office explained that football-related hate crimes have increased significantly in recent years, and that updated guidelines must be applied in all cases where a “football ban” can be issued.
