Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes F1 took off all the piercings and went to the session in the first free practice session of the British Grand Prix, which will be his home race.
This season, F1’s new race director has declared that wearing jewelry during the Grand Prix is prohibited. Although not a new regulation, Niels Witchich and Edoardo Freitas have decided to enforce it for safety reasons.
Lewis Hamilton rebelled against it. The driver was given a grace period after he said, “Some things can’t be moved, and the ones in the right ear are literally welded and need to be chopped up.”
Still, Lewis Hamilton said, “I have no plans to remove it. I feel there is something personal and I should be able to be who I am. I will continue to do that.”
However, the grace period ends on Thursday at the F1 British Grand Prix this weekend. The FIA was reported to be able to ban Lewis Hamilton if he did not remove his piercings.
Lewis Hamilton was confirmed to be wearing piercings on Thursday, but on Friday’s first free practice session, he took off all piercings on his nose and ears and attended the session. He is no longer threatened by bans.
