The Baltic Sea may become a “lake of NATO”, says a political scientist
The deployment of nuclear weapons in Kaliningrad could become Russia’s trump card in the confrontation with NATO against the backdrop of Sweden and Finland joining the alliance. This opinion was expressed by political scientist Vladimir Jaralla.
“Kaliningrad was created and exists precisely as a military fortress of a modern type, capable of controlling a significant part of the territories. In the event that nuclear weapons are deployed there, a trump card immediately appears, which, in fact, cannot be interrupted, ”Jaralla wrote in his column on Journalistic Pravda.
According to him, the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO can really turn the Baltic Sea into a “NATO lake”. After joining the alliance, these countries refuse neutrality, because of this, their security does not improve, but weakens, the political scientist believes.
Finland and Sweden have officially decided to join NATO, accession protocol signed July 5th. Turkey opposed this decision.
