Rafael Nadal was dissatisfied with the groans Lorenzo Sonego during the third round “Wimbledon”.
The Spaniard was leading 2-0 in sets and 4-2 in the third when the match was stopped to close the roof. After that, the 22-time Grand Slam champion lost two games in a row.
With the score at 4:4, Nadal called Sonego to the net and told him that he was moaning too long following being hit. After this conversation, the judge on the tower asked the Italian not to do this.
Then Nadal won two games in a row, and following the match he and Sonego discussed the situation at the net for another minute.
After the match, Nadal was asked regarding how the ending of the match turned out to be “peppered”.
“There was no peppercorn.
I say from the bottom of my heart that I didn’t mean to shoot him down. I just wanted to tell him something – and I did it in a kind way.
Now I’m really sorry if I shot him down. We talked following the match, and then I’ll talk to him once more. But we have no problems,” Nadal said.
