Bernstein was charged with attempted murder with a firearm but was released on $50,000 bail, local media reported.
A police officer who was called to the scene said Bayouth was shot at least five times in his torso, back, calf and foot. Fortunately, Bayouth was still awake at the time and was not in immediate danger of life following being taken to the hospital, and is still in hospital.
According to the report, the motive for Bernstein’s murder is still under investigation. It is reported that the two have worked together for nine months, and because of Bernstein’s health problems, some client business has been transferred to Bayouth.
Morgan Stanley fired Bernstein immediately following the incident and applied for an injunction barring Bernstein from contact with his employees.
Leonard Bernstein started his investment banking career at Morgan Stanley in 1994, then moved to Citi, Wells Fargo and other banks before returning to Morgan Stanley last year.
