Dubai: Food crisis caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and rising fuel prices have created 7.1 million new hungry people in the world, UN Development Program report. In the first three months alone, 5.16 crore people became poor. Their daily income is less than 1.92 dollars (150 rupees). With this, nine percent of the global population is in extreme hunger, according to the report. According to another benchmark, $3.20 (Rs. 253), an additional two crore people are starving.
The prices of essential commodities like wheat, sugar and cooking oil have gone up sharply with the imposition of severe sanctions on Russia by the West.
