A photographer documents the moment a giant “ghost” appeared among the clouds of Saudi Arabia in Al-Baha

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN)–“Beautiful, surprising, and an unusual moment.” With these words, the Saudi photographer, Hani Al-Zahrani, describes the phenomenon of the “Ghost of the Mountain”, which he spotted through his camera lens, while he was on the edge of the Sarawat mountain peaks, in the Al Baha region. in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

This place has always been distinguished by its thick fog that hugs the foothills of the mountains, its mild climate, and its rainy weather.

The Brocken Specter phenomenon is the glow of colors around the shadow of a person standing in the mountain during the formation of fog, or on clouds opposite the direction of the sun, which form a halo around his shadow.

In fact, Al-Zahrani did not plan to shoot these scenes.

The Saudi photographer, while talking to CNN in Arabic, explained that this phenomenon “is considered one of the rare natural phenomena, which is not linked to a specific season, but you may encounter it if you are in the right location and time.”

This rare phenomenon occurs on the slopes of misty mountains or cumulus clouds.

The Saudi photographer noticed the size of his large shadow, which was glowing and surrounded by the colors of the rainbow, while he was on a picnic to watch the clouds rising on the mountaintops at sunrise.

Al-Zahrani said: “It was a wonderful moment that prompted me to take a picture of this phenomenon.”

The most prominent challenges faced by the Saudi photographer are the persistence of the phenomenon for only a few minutes before its disappearance.

This phenomenon was called the “mountain ghost” because the shadow of the standing person is usually like a big ghost, which gives the impression of a kind of giant creature to those who watch this shadow.

The “ghost” can sometimes move suddenly due to the movement of the layer of clouds and fog and its different density, according to Al-Zahrani.
