Shots and scuffle: large-scale police operation in Vienna in the Swiss Garden

A scuffle, including knives and shots from a blank pistol, triggered a large-scale police operation in the Schweizer Garten on Vienna-Landstrasse on Sunday morning.

After witnesses heard shots in Vienna-Lanstraße in the Schweizer Garten, they called the police around 8 a.m. on Monday morning. According to the passer-by, the two groups involved fled following an escalated dispute. The police were able to stop two victims (17, 18) and two suspects aged 24 and 33.

The 17 and 18-year-olds stated that several people had suddenly attacked them. Both were threatened with a folding knife and pelted with a glass bottle and stones, the police reported on Sunday. Furthermore, one of the suspects is said to have fired several shots in the air with a pistol. According to his own statements, the 18-year-old was hit with a belt and attacked with kicks, and he was then taken to a hospital by rescue workers.

The two suspects did not confess to the allegations. However, a pistol was seized from them. This is said to belong to the 24-year-old, and a temporary weapon ban was imposed on him. Several shell casings from a blank pistol were also found in the Wiedner Belt area. The duo was taken to a prison by order of the Vienna public prosecutor. A search for the other suspects was unsuccessful.
