Colombo ∙ Sri Lankan ex-president Gotabaya Rajapakse, who was chased away by the people, will return on the 24th. Rajapakse left the country last month because he could not hold on to the popular uprising that followed the country’s debt crisis. This was released by the local media quoting Udayanga Weeratunga, a former diplomat in Russia who is close to Rajapakse.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe said the other day that Rajapakse will not return anytime soon. He has not responded to the new news. Meanwhile, the President stated that the state of emergency imposed in the country will not be extended beyond this week.
